Healthy feet for spring at Waverley Foot Clinic, Farnham

Keeping feet looking healthy for spring
At the end of the long winter months our feet may feel neglected. Months of feet being in warm winter shoes often leaves them feeling dry and uncom-fortable. Dry feet can look and feel unpleasant, but also may develop into a serious problem.
As we start to think about wearing sandals or flip-flops how our feet look becomes more important. Dry feet and heels can look and feel unpleasant, as someone once said ‘you never see a French lady with cracked heels’. But how do we keep our feel well hydrated and feeling good?
Firstly, regular use of a foot cream can really make a difference. This helps to replace the moisture within the skin lost during our busy lives. Also, most foot creams are specially formulated to hydrate the skin and help re-duce hard skin and callus build up. This is very important and hard skin sometimes starts to form cracks which may be deep and even bleed. This is to be always avoided as broken skin may be an entry point for serious infections such as cellulitis.
If the skin is very hard regular use of a foot file in conjunction with foot cream use will also be very helpful. But remember; dry skin, especially with broken areas may require professional advice from a Podiatrist or GP.

Finally, remember the best long term solution to prevent dry feet is to hy-drate your feet throughout the year. This is the best way to keep feet look-ing and feeling healthy all the time.
